R A A News Bulletin on Motoring Freedoms for 1946
The Australian Automobile Association AAA aims to remove petrol rationing and tyre controls as part of its 1946 programme. If rationing cannot end, AAA demands explanations for petrol shortages versus Britain and other Dominions. Tyre supply is improving with expectations of retreads and more tires as rubber and labor become available. The plan also seeks lower petrol prices through freight and tax relief, bigger state road grants from petrol tax, and a united push to influence Federal road funding forthcoming in 1947. Lifting petrol rationing is the first item. The notice lists lighting-up schedules for January 1946 operations.
