Crystal Brook Hospital 1943 Report Highlights War Strain and Growth
The Crystal Brook Hospital annual report for 1943 commends community support amid war strain, notes a record 392 admissions and a 16.69 daily average, and details a new four bed Men’s Ward funded partly by government subsidy. It outlines fundraising by the Ladies Guild, district council contributions, and plans for postwar expansion including a Women’s General Ward and Children’s Ward. The report discusses finances, rate contributions by councils, staff shortages, and the hospital’s role in local health service amid rationing and war-related pressures.
