Railway worker loses leg in shunting accident
Forty years ago on a Friday in February 1890 Stephen Crossman engine driver slipped and fell from his locomotive while uncoupling. He was treated by Dr McDougall and taken to Jamestown Hospital where the leg was amputated above the knee by Dr Aut dein. Crossman’s progress was described as satisfactory and he was highly regarded. Mr G Lake, proprietor of the Jamestown Recorder, will contest the next parliamentary electors.
