General regret followed the death of Captain R H Sampson a respected Gladstone resident born in 1841 in Liskaid Cornwall who arrived in South Australia in 1873. He worked in farming, butchery, and later on a farm known as Cowan's and built a house he lived in until death. He was a champion rifle shot, Australian representative at Queen Victoria Jubilee London 1897, and member of Gladstone's first Town Council for fourteen years. He died shortly after his wife and the funeral was one of the largest in Gladstone with Rev C B Holmes and Rev Close officiating. He leaves three sons and four daughters with many grandchildren. lasting sympathy to Gordon Kearney among others.
Magzeed Rasheed a renowned horse dealer and pastoralist died suddenly at North Adelaide Private Hospital after attending the Victoria Park races. A 58-year-old immigrant from 36 years ago, he owned Lake Torrens Mulooloo Gum Park and properties in Orroroo and sent thousands of horses to India. He supported charities and the war effort donating around £5,000.
Mrs M A Stacey aged ninety, wife of Wm Stacey of Jamestown, marked the 90th birthday on Sunday. Born in Wigton England in 186? she arrived in South Australia in 1851 with family. The Stacey couple retired to Jamestown 23 years ago after farming years at Tack Springs and Hornsdale. They have 22 grandchildren and several great grandchildren with scattered surviving children.
