Death of Mrs M J Meaney at Gladstone district
Residents of Gladstone and nearby areas were shocked by the death of Mrs Mary Teresa Meaney wife of Michael James Meaney of Goodlands Gladstone on August 18. She was born 1872 Navan near Riverton and married in 1899 at Tarlee. The funeral drew 60 mourners and six of her sons served as pallbearers. She leaves a husband six sons five daughters and 14 grandchildren. The notice also reports on a district talent contest held on 20th with multiple schools and winners, noting Naridy School won the aggregate cup awaiting 12 months tenure.

Arbor Day Observed In Gladstone For 56 Kurrajongs Planted
Arbor Day was observed in Gladstone with 56 kurrajongs planted along Cross Street. About 300 people attended as scholars from Gladstone High Primary and St Peter’s joined in the ceremony under headteachers Messrs E. C. Parsons and R. A. Mundy. The event was supported by the Returned Soldiers League and Gladstone District Council, with plans for future tree plantings along the Georgetown road as part of town beautification.
