Annual Hibernian Ball Draws 450 Dancers in Jamestown
About 450 dancers enjoyed a thoroughly good time at the 43rd Annual Hibernian Ball held at the Jamestown Institute on Wednesday August 6. Patronage of Very Rev. Dr. M. F. Toss and visitors from nearby and distant centers attended. Darrell Field's six musician ensemble provided music under Bros. J. K. Kerin, W. F. Hoffmann, and R. J. Williams. The Grand Polonaise, led by F. C. Clarke and Mrs. Clarke, opened a displays of regalia and stage decorations. Thanks go to Mrs. Whitford, Mrs. M. J. McCarthy, and Miss Kitty Kelly for outstanding decorations in the Supper Room and stage. Supper was arranged by St. Jamies Catholic Church Congregation with Mesdames J. F. Martin and J. J. Kerin. Caretaker Lethbridge kept the dance floor pristine and E. J. Krang provided amplifying service, a valued asset.

Gladstone District Council discussed hospital equipment needs with autoclave favored for Gladstone Private Hospital and funds to be split between ambulance and Mothers Babies Health Association. The council also approved trading table for St Peters Church, reappointment of auditors, and calls for urgent road repairs on Burnside Stalin Homestead route and nearby lanes. A ratepayers meeting on August 19 was set to discuss rebuilding the District Hall.
