Tasmanian Potato Market Prices and Shipments

Week ending 1st September reports a heavy wharf carryover of Tasmanian potatoes around 11 000 to 12 000 bags. Prices were cut by £1 per ton to £16 for choicest stock, but buyers held off. Further shipments of 10 000 to 12 000 bags expected by Monday. Victorians arrived at Alexandra in heavy quantities. quality is secondary, sales weak. Local consignments sold at £12 to £15 per ton. one New England lot brought a peak £15 5s. per ton. A New England consignment is due end of month. Local growers remain confident.
