It mentions Ansac Day becoming a public holiday in this state and the Prince of Wales Birthday holiday being abolished in NSW. Easter travel saw many cars on the Sydney Goulburn road with crowded trains yet limited traveler care. A daily Sydney to Goulburn bus service signals railway competition to country centers, as Commissioners monitor the shift and ongoing railway improvements.

State Elections Set for May 20 Under Proportional Representation

The State Cabinet has resolved to hold the state elections on May 20. Writs will be issued at 6 pm today, returnable within 60 days. Elections will again use proportional representation. In 1924 electors had to give preference votes to all candidates. For a five member electorate a voter may vote for five candidates only. A three member constituency applies the same principle. Ballot validity depends on marking up to the number of seats, not beyond, with more strict rules than last election.

United Front to Fight Socialism Debate at Luncheon

A united front to fight socialism was urged by Premier Sir George Fuller at a luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. He signaled a possible tax cut later, while delegates at the annual conference of the affiliated Chambers of Commerce of New South Wales heard remarks from Mr Jones Daglop and others. The Sydney Chamber of Commerce presided over the event, with local leaders in attendance, and the session defended the Chamber’s apolitical stance amid party lines.
