Sportsman exclusive selects Rodborough to win the Wentworth first division while also backing Silver Rose and Mestoravon. The paper touts its readers as miles ahead of rivals with exclusive post finishes and a daily double. Rodborough had shown a satisfactory Warwick Farm debut, leading to top selection by the analysts.
In a dramatic two mile Treble event Mestoravon outran rivals led by Sir Ross with J Duncan guiding the big mount to a race record 3.21 as Oro, El Senorita and Mananui challenged late. Spear Prince and Allunga also featured before the finish.
On Sydney Cup Day at Randwick the starting faults marred a day with several notable performances. In the afternoon at Randwitt, each of the first three races saw a single horse loom ahead briefly but fade to finish behind the prizewinners. Lad Pola placed fifth in the Easter Stakes, Bonnie Legion was fourth in the La Perouse after losing lengths, and Cooranets lagged in the Biraganbil Handicap as the field pulled away.
