A meeting follows the V.R.C. Spring Meeting offering champions a chance to compete for the King's Cup. Owners of champions are urged to adjust plans to partake in this high honor, a trophy likely to be named after the Royal visitor and presented by him to the winning owner.
Wellington bookmaker Tom Basset, famed for generosity and sharp wit, lent £40 to a youth named Hercules Jones after he was charged with robbery. The youth was later disqualified for nine months, and Basset’s bond was forfeited, shattering the bookmaker’s faith in human nature.
Frank McGrath and Jack Jamieson visited the wharves on Tuesday night to greet horses entered for the forthcoming Spring handicaps. Among them was Master Brierly, a candidate for the rich AJC events, now a stablemate of Peter Pan. Master Brierly will be trained by Frank McGrath and must show form to be a valuable second leg to the champion chestnut.

The couple now reside in Elwood, Melbourne, with Douglas ranked next to Jack Hynes among riders of leppers.
Mystery horse Panto, a four year old by Pantheon, stands out as a key Caulfield Cup contender. Despite limited Sydney exposure, experts praise his even conformation and recent Westralian Leger victory. Frank McGrath calls him a better bet than Hyperion and compares him favorably as a Cup prospect. Peter Pan and Panto are a noted double pick.
Queenslander Brown Paddy, a five year old bred like a slayer and winner of the St Leger, is booked to race in Sydney with jockey Bennett aboard for all engagements. He is 8.0 in the Metropolitan and will likely unleash his form since he is not engaged in the Cups.
OE COOK and Bill Kelso sat close at the Ted Morgan Her b Bishop bout joined by racing names around the ringside. Bill Kelso and Joe Cook held prominent spots while bookmaker Ernie Vandenberg was present. Young Clyde Cook praised Tod Morgan over Le Legion though his father Joe doubted Tod’s usefulness on oats.
