It mentions overseas racing figures, starting-gate debates in America, and Australian bonuses and results from Randwick and Newbury, including Man o' War birthday lore and Derby prospects.
Scattered notes indicate English track records show slow times in March events. A London meet on March 19 saw ten miles in 340, a score for the corsa, while Rioalwick lists Eutentwood 335 for battons and Brypharties 3,374 over brash. The report discusses Flemington jumping events and the Grand National Hurdle Race with notes on entrant quality and past winners Pooley Bridge and Fulhart. It highlights Sydney horses’ fair Steeplechase record, ractions about betting legislation, and a US fraud probe into racing tipsters with a $20,000 bail sum.
Euphorbus has been profitable as a hurdler this season with five hurdle wins totaling £760 and £30 from minor placings. He also won one flat race and earned three thirds, giving a season total just over £844. The three miles in the V R C Grand National may test him despite his jumping skill. Brood mares were destroyed at the stud, nine in total including Linith, Lile Queen, Thasia, and Cho Cho San.
A late month withdrawal of horses similar to Soltoid Flemington troubles bookmakers. National Bookmakers Protection Association deputation welcomed by stewards. Tote refunds on non starters may lower prices for placed horses, with unclear smoker provisions and potential backer risk.
