Plucky Ride From Brisbane to Sydney Records Footnotes
Mr Arthur Smith of Gisborne recalls a strenuous bicycle trek from Brisbane to Sydney in 1895. G Mubleisen notes a 5 days 133 hours journey, a performance later surpassed by Cecil May’s 1920 record of 3 days 20 hours 1 minute. Poor roads, winds, and injuries slowed the rider, with long sections on foot and a final push to Sydney ending near the five day mark.
