On Tuesday March 18 at 2 p.m. L. E. Walker & Co. in Brisbane conduct a private sale of yearlings including a Brown Colt and other lots. The advertisement lists numerous horse names and attributes for private sale, with emphasis on potential purchasers to inspect the stock at the-sale venue.
William C. Yuille & Co of 9B Bourke Street Melbourne appears in a fragmentary notice. The readable text hints at a financial or property matter involving King Offa and Tay, with uncertain context and distant references to a regional event or transaction.
Fragmentary OCR notes mention prize money, races, nominations, and events in Kensington with dates around March. It lists March 42, January or January like references, and several garbled names and places, indicating a timetable or entry notice for upcoming horse racing events with unclear details.
The article highlights Poseidon IMositane’s victory in the Juvesite Stakes ahead of rivals, noting his prior near-misses and comparing his performance with other top juveniles of 1905. It discusses his bloodline, training notes, and potential as a sire, alongside mentions of other prominent horses and breeding figures of the era.
The Melbourne sale opened amid a severe pneumonic influenza wave and low demand. Prices fell, average per lot dropped to a low not seen for years, with top price around 470 guineas and a standout bid of 1,040 guineas for a Comedy King progeny. Mr Creswick led four-year results, while buyers like J A McLeod and others chased colt and filly lots despite the unsettled market.
