Military Dispatch Report Probes Army Shortcomings
In Tuesday's Assembly Mr B B O Conor presented the Select Committee report on the general administration of the Military Department and troop dispatch to South Africa. It finds lapses in discipline, equipment flaws from helmets to overcoats, and criticizes supply contracts. The panel urges a state clothing factory and an ammunition and arms factory, questions military command appointments, and notes friction with Major General French and Ministerial decisions. It concludes future federal forces will address reforms after transition to the Commonwealth.
