A R P Plans Public Meeting Appoints First Aid Commandant

Dr Charles Byrne Shire Medical Officer of Health announced at the meeting that he is the First Aid Commandant under A R P regulations with Drs Doran and Gowland agreeing to cooperate He outlined the attack on air raid readiness including central depot first aid posts manned by Red Cross trained staff and many recruits sought to support the effort with classes in protective work.

Recruiting Office to Open at Town Hall

A recruiting office will be opened at the Town Hall. Volunteers are to take instructions and not ask the reason why, signaling a disciplined enlistment stance during a period of civic effort.

Fatal Railway Crossing Death of Brunswick Driver

John N. Duncan 22, of Brunswick, died at Deer Park when his five ton grader for the Country Roads Board was struck at the Station Road crossing by the 8.15 am up train from Horsham to Melbourne. Duncan was en route to Braybrook Shire Hall to collect wages. He was the sole son. his mother is a widow.

Sunshine Angling Club Contest at Konac heuer

The Sunshine Angling Club held a fishing competition at Konac heuer last Sunday won by E Hyett with 1 trout and 2 tench totaling 5 1b 6oz. E Nicholls finished second. Upcoming events include a Darrewell Guim contest this Sunday from 6 am to 7 pm and an estuary meet the following Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm.

Red Cross Branch Formed in Sunshine Amid War Preparations

A 200 strong public meeting in Sunshine formed a local Red Cross branch and discussed civilian protection against air raids. Dr A Lowe was elected president with Dr J R Parsons and Father Ryder as vice presidents, and a plan to fund humanitarian work was approved.

Ex-Constable Burke Fined for Failure to Appear in Court

Vincent George Burke formerly a Sunshine constable was fined 20/ for not appearing to show his ability to pay a debt to Mr W Dinnell of Sunshine Motors. He had a subpoena and conduct money. The hearing is listed for October 6.

Verdicts in Arrears of Rates at Braybrook Shire Court

Thirty six residents summoned at the Sunshine court for arrears of rates due to Braybrook Shire. Verdicts delivered with no defendants appearing. Total amount sued for is £272.
