Sunshine Baptist announces three Sunday services with Mr Grewer speaking in the morning and Rev E H Carne delivering afternoon and evening sermons. The second meeting of Central Riding councillors and ratepayers is set for Monday at the Town Hall to voice grievances before Cra, Barclay and Hayden.
Education Week invites Braybrook parishioners to attend open days at Varlows schools. The event, led by the shire president and councillors, seeks local support for education with a showcase of student work. Samples will also be shown in Melbourne Town Hall on October 30 and 31.
The Braybrook Shire Council observed a minute of silence for Dr. Alfred Lowe who died last week. The council praised his 18 years as a councillor including two Presidential chair terms and his strong support for community good. Sympathy extended to Mrs. Lowe and son Kenneth with a copy of the resolution to be sent.
The Shire President Dr G Dobson requests readers support the Lord Mayor's Fund for metropolitan hospitals and charities with a musical recital at Shire Hall Sunshine on Sunday October 29 starting 8 15 pm. Trahair bandmaster and Sunshine Choral Society secretary H Gray organize the program. A further notice will outline details in next week's issue.
Miss K Gordon spoke to Sunshine residents on a planned community centre. The Youth Centre Committee seeks delegates from shire organisations to back the project. A Rosanna site study backs an Olympic size swimming pool as the inaugural step in a larger scheme.
Deaths occur in Sunshine with Elizabeth Annie Thomas aged 63 at Prince Henrys Hospital funeral at Footscray Cemetery directed by R B Penn. John More aged 79 of Woori Yallock former farmer and storekeeper funeral at Footscray Cemetery conducted by Ernest W Jackson. Jim Thom blinded soldier formerly of Sunshine died after service overseas and memorial service held with Blinded Soldiers Association and Dads Shrine of Remembrance activity continuing in Sunshine.
Dr. Chas. Byrne said there is no truth in a rumor he would leave Sunshine and asked the paper to publish this announcement.
At a Sruybrook Council session Monday night the State Collector Mr R T Barnett reported the Shire valuation for rateable purposes at 279071 pounds the highest on record. Supplementary valuations showed increases in Central Riding 365 Southern Riding 5644 River Riding 6145 and Western Riding 1866 bringing the total rise to 14000 pounds.
Bray Inwok Shire faces a lag in Second Victory Loan returns and must act within 12 days. G E Dobson appeals to business leaders workers and citizens to invest at least £10 and to support a sustained shire wide campaign with help from local loan committee representatives.
Burwood Handicap results show Tolstoy winning with Prating second and Fungi third while Mona Nursery lists Twinkle Star winning and Royal Gilt placing. Wyuna Steeple results note Peigatay in first with Pines. Other bets include Brewster's Millions and Caulfield Cup picks Dominate Nagation Bootle Huntinggdale and Gwyn Nursery winners Vive Felstar Kindergold Moonga Handicap first division David's Last placing Register Ducal second division Phonies Gala Chief and Peter Con.
At a Footscray Sunshine Scouts Association meeting on Wednesday evening Dr J R Parsons was elected president succeeding Mr J F Schutt of Footscray. The Shire of Keilor loan reported strong oversubscription by over 46000.
On Wednesday afternoon November 1 Mrs Thornton will be the speaker. Members are requested to bring any kind of stall items for a sale and all ladies are welcome.
Dulcie Margaret Dodwell of Wagga is engaged to Norman Hiskens of Sunshine. Patricia Mary D Arcy of Sunshine is engaged to Hughie Graystone of South Medbourne, Coventry Street, Sunshine.
The marriage of Enid House to Jack Gardiner will be celebrated at Christ Church South Yarra on October 28. Enid is the eldest granddaughter of Mrs A dames of Mary Strout. The ceremony will be conducted by Rev H Michel.
Last Monday evening a special meeting was held to prepare for the upcoming baby show. Entries are strong and a capable staff and judges are arranged. Volunteers are urged to help at the hall on Saturday morning and from 1.30 pm. The general meeting is Monday 28th at 8 pm in the Town Hall, with a feature next in the State Theatre and a free outing planned for Monday 30th for couples.
