The Rainbow Fair by the Ladies' Guild of Maidstone Methodist Church drew a large local turnout from Footscray and beyond. Decorations formed a fairy dell atmosphere with a rainbow font as a backdrop and prizes honored long-time church pioneers. A parade featured Lorna Rakin as a Rainbow girl, the choir performed, and prizes went to top cooks and sweet makers. A deputation of residents and a Braybrook area delegation urged Deer Park site for the new sale yards, arguing its rail connections and proximity to Tottenham and Gippsland stock flows.
