Ratepayer letter protests West Sunshine area works

A Western Riding ratepayer expressed dissatisfaction with works in West Sunshine in a Craybrook Council letter by Mr W Castley. He cited Armstrong Street drainage and Kororoit Creek issues, calls for lighting and paths, and a four acre reserve. Councillors Pennell and Lynch sponsored receipt, while Dr Dobson urged health attention. The council noted drainage fixes via Glengala Road tenders, lighting delays, and a health inspection to follow.

Use of Gables for Public Purposes at Sunshine

A potential public use is planned for the Gables at Talmage Street Sunshine. An inspection by Charities Commission representatives occurred last Friday. The Railways Department aims to acquire land around King Edward Ave and Talmage St with Mr C N McKay possibly selling the house. Braybrook Council has negotiated for recreation reserve land with Railways and McKay. discussions continue at the Public Works Committee meeting Monday.

Sunshine Cricket Association Awards Second 100 Instalment

The Sunshine Cricket Association handed over a second 100 installment of 300 for a two wicket project at Selwyn Park. Officials J Patten T Laffan and K Schmidt expressed pleasure in supporting young cricketers and senior cricket opportunities under the given conditions.

Sunshine Sub District Club to face Port Melbourne in big clash

The Sunshine Sub District Cricket Club meets Port Melbourne at the Port Melbourne ground tomorrow. A Friday night committee meeting is set for 8 p.m. at the Sunshine Advocate office with all members urged to attend. First XI lists McCarthy, Willey, Ayton and others. 3rd XI and 2nd XI squads named with players including Kyle and G. Crook.

Charity Night at Kirton Speedway Supports Navy Memorial Appeal

A meeting of landowners affected by Railways Department acquisitions met at Maidstone Hall. Dr G Dobson chaired and State MPs and Railways Estates Office spoke on the Special Act for migrant housing. Sunshine Band Second in Heidelberg Contest

The Sunshine District Band finished a close second to Maryborough City Band at the Heidelberg Eisteddfod brass contest held at Heid Hoge Town Hall. Bandmaster Lill Wheatley earned high credit for guiding the 23 year old unit as veterans Bi Green Hyn Guy and Val Hummel helped back the younger players. Alister Campbell Sunshine won second in the under 12 brass band and soloist section, mentored by Tom Rigby, as the youngest entrant in the group.

Shabby treatment questioned by Braybrook Council

Dr J R Parsons told Braybrook Council that the Railways Department had shabbily treated them over plans for houses to be built in Sunshine. He moved the council ask for plans and specifications and, if denied, to allow the Shire Building Inspector to view the plans and report back.

Health Centre Planned for Maribyrnong

Braybrook Council acts after Dr R A Barrett plea to install a health centre at Maribyrnong. Current public hall facilities are inadequate, prompting calls for £2000 funding. Council agrees to earmark £1000 from Maribyrnong Reserve and seek a £1000 subsidy from the State Government.

Dads Association Appeal Reminds Duty to Aid War Veterans

The Sunshine Dads Association urges fathers to stay involved and support veterans less fortunate than their own sons. It notes over 200 cases at Bundoora and that members visit hospitals and visit periodicals to lift spirits, urging donations and attendance at the next meeting.

Purity of Milk Questioned at Braybrook Council

At Braybrook Council on Monday Dr Dobson questioned milk pasteurisation methods. He noted some milk shipped from Drown Warragul and Werri-Hoout is pasteurised and handled after leaving depots, and the Health Inspector deemed pasteurisation at wholesale source not wholly satisfactory.

Wedding Bells in Sunshine for Audrey MacKay and Edwin Young

Audrey Doris MacKay and Edwin Leslie Young married at St Mark's Church of England Sunshine on Saturday October 8. The bride, given away by her father Dr. D G MacKay, wore a full length satin and tulle gown with lace and orange blossom accents. The bridegroom's party included his brother Ray Young and cousin Allan Long. A reception for 120 followed at the Masonic Hall with a three tier wedding cake and capably prepared catering. The couple departed for honeymoon at Serne in aqua frock and jacket with matching hat.
