An irate punter facing a gaming act case has sent anonymous hand printed letters to police and citizens, threatening to shoot them. Authorities view the threats seriously as a full investigation continues into the alleged crime and the case slated for October 24.
Mra J L Dobson J P wife of the Shire President will host a civic reception at Shire Hall Sun shine on Thursday 16 November 1950 at 2 30 pm. Invitation lists cover office bearers and executive committees of community groups within the Shire. Secretaries are asked to forward names to Shire Hall.
Sunshine Branch of the Victoria Banjo Club will broadcast for the first time next Sunday at 11 a.m. on 3KZ. The club meets at Jones Melody House Hampshire Road and has grown to over fifty members since starting earlier this year.
The Board of Works plans an early start on drainage projects in Stoney Creek. Crossings will be built at Dickson Street Monash Street and Cornwall Road. The creek between Dickson Street and Monash Street will be cleared.
The council backed no change to a rule forcing complete framing before occupancy as a migrant settlement grows at Deer Park. Dr Dobson led a review, urging government housing and private industry aid while warning loosening the rule risks substandard homes. The motion to maintain enforcement passed unanimously.
Sun Youth Travel fund totals £ 91/8/6 with £ 10 donated by Brooklyn Progress Assn and Brooklyn Social Club. Dr A Beachley chairs the committee and thanks supporters while urging similar groups to contribute despite the small local population.
Strong teams selected for opening day with 1st XI led by captain D McCarthy including Brown hill Foster Ayton Deeble Wright Ormston Young Kyle Fox Ferrell. 2nd XI captained by L Willey with Pettifer and O'Reilly among others. 3rd XI to play Footscray IOOF at Ballarat Rd centre wicket. Bus leaves Post Office at 12.14. Authorities appointed managers and scorers for all XIs. Ladies auxiliary urged to meet at 2.30 for tea transport to Selwyn Park.
The Beachrook Shire Council reported substantial commission figures for street works overseen for bodies including the Houshag Commission and ICee. The figures indicated the council would be more than recompensed for any additional staff required to complete the works, as of Monday.
The death of Mr Ernest Nayler aged 50, longtime H V McKay worker, foreman and public spirit, shocks Sunshine. He served as former Sunshine Football Club president and on multiple committees, supported child welfare, and helped build playgrounds. Funeral at Fawkner Crematorium with large attendance. Survived by widow, son Jack, and daughter Mrs T Gardiner. Ernest W Jackson & Son of Williamstown handled arrangements.
Tenders closed with the MMBW for the Anderson Road drainage scheme and only one bid was submitted, exceeding the estimate by £85,000. The action highlights a stark gap between forecast costs and the bid received, signaling potential budget pressure for the project.
Miss Patricia Elizabeth Tyson and Mr Eric Edward McKenzie wed at Sunshine Presbyterian Church on September 23, celebrated by Rev. F. Sadler. The bride wore a lace gown over satin with a long embroidered veil, carried a sweet pea and hyacinth bouquet, and was attended by two bridesmaids and a flowergirl. Best and groomsmen included Murray Hutchinson and Bern Doherty. A 120-guest reception followed at the Masonic Hall. The couple then left for a Sydney honeymoon in a blue suit with plum accessories.
The 1950/51 pennant bowls season opens with three Sunshine teams set for action. No 1 hosts Thornbury with Perry as captain and a full lineup, No 2 travels to City No 2 led by Roberts and Pearce, No 3 faces Box Hill at Box Hill with Gray as captain. Cars depart the Post Office at 1.45 pm and 1.20 pm respectively.
