A Brisbane Street resident on Brisbane Street Albion urged action after heavy rain turned the street to a quagmire. Dr E Willey supported the complaint noting a man was unable to pass and questioning how women with prams could manage. City Engineer Mr Robinson promised a temporary path while a full scheme is prepared.
A council discussed allocating £200 to the Ladies Benevolent Society. The previous year saw Mr W F Hatton’s £850 land offer for the Corto Street site for a municipal library approved. The City Engineer is to inspect Cordite Avenue Maribyrnong traffic conditions. Dr McDonald noted low phosphate traffic. most traffic serves Commonwealth factories. Plans for Farnsworth Feet road were requested after ratepayer input. Dr Dempster moved temporary relief for Edward Victor Albert Phoenix and Cumberland Streets North Rhine. Hampshire Road shop owners must fix verandah spouting. Consideration of a traffic officer by Officers and Servants Committee. Dr Green urged temporary relief for Monies Street. Dr Persona requested a report on kitchen conditions at the Fown Fal Western Ward. Councillors agreed to inspect Main Road West St Albans after a request for a footpath in front of a new pharmacy. Footpath provision in front of Tottenham North State School referred to Riv Ward for inclusion in works list.
The Child Care Committee requests the Sunshine Council to receive a deputation on the proposed Community Centre. The committee proposes integrating the centre with a swimming pool project.
On motion by Dr N Green the Sunshine Council sends the municipality’s role in the Royal Visit next year to a committee for feewagian.
St Albans town council discussed a proposed drainage and road scheme with 127 rate-payers in the drainage plan. Only 12 paid in full, 10 paid part, 41 sought ten-year terms, and 62 paid nothing. residents urged the project continue without delay.
At Sunshine Council meeting Dr. E Willey condemned the Shed on Barclay Reserve as a disgrace. He urged attention to a request for doors painting and sewerage installation. The City Engineer said sewerage planning tenders would be called again once Board of Works supplies plans.
The Minister of Education Hon A. E. Shepherd announces a contract for a six room timber class block at Sunaline State School costing £11,750. A.V. Jennings Construction Co. will build it and work is expected to start soon. Separate contracts cover heating and lighting for the new building.
River Ward councilors announce additional £1.50 to the £1,000 government grant for Maidstone Infant Welfare Centre after the Dept of Health warned the 1948 grant could be withdrawn if a building starts within three months. Cornell will tell the Dept. the project costs at least £2,600.
