Braybrook Council Refuses Temporary Abattoir Permit

Braybrook Council refused to grant F Watkins Pty Ltd permission to establish a temporary abattoir in Brooklyn despite prior Health Officer and Health Inspector approval and a Shire Engineer report. The Shire President ruled the matter out of order until reviewed. A motion to approve was defeated, with possible litigation looming.

Kindergarten Scholar Scholarships Close Tomorrow

Applications for the Department of Health scholarships to Kindergarten Training College Kew close tomorrow Saturday 25th November. Scholarships cover three years of college fees books and living allowance. Applicants must hold the Leaving Certificate and be 17 years old. Stanley Taylor Appeal Sees Tickets Sold For Sportsmen Events

Invitations to ratepayers to buy tickets for entertainments by the district sports section in aid of the Stanley Taylor Appeal have raised the total past £200. Ratepayers were randomly selected from the municipal roll and replies are needed by 30 November to allow others to buy tickets. Seats for season ticket holders who sent £1 will be reserved, with other donations acknowledged by letter. A full program round-up will be published next week. The General Fund total now stands at £1,166 14s 5d.

Opening Night Brings Chief Little Wolf at Stanley Taylor Appeal

The opening night for the Stanley Taylor appeal features Chief Little Wolf as a guest along with many sports celebrities. The program includes four boxing bouts two wrestling bouts interviews with top jockeys footballers and cricketers with 600 seats capacity half filled. Exam Held for Sun Youth Travel Candidates

The examination to select five boys to represent the municipality on a trip to England next year was held this morning. Results will be known December 22. The final instalment of £200 must be paid by then, with £70 still to be collected. Dr. A Beachley, chairman of the local appeal committee, asks residents to contribute within the remaining month to avoid aborting the scheme.

New Choice for Health Centre Site

Officers of the Department of Health select the rear of Seymours Corner as the best site for an infant welfare centre after inspecting all options. The previous site opposite the Shire Hall is deemed unsuitable and the Council will ask the Railways Department about releasing the land.

Committee to Control Koror Creek Swimming Pool

A public meeting will be called to form a committee to control the Koror Creek swimming pool. The council seeks to restore the pool as a recreation and beauty spot after councillors inspected it and recommended preliminary work such as clearing thistles and removing silt.
