Council Debate on Water Main Guarantees and Valuation Changes

At a Sunshine Advocate meeting on Saturday May 17 1924 Dr Dempster outlined a water main guarantee granted by the council. The secretary explained that when residents requested water mains in their street the Board would cover a deficiency if the revenue fell short. In several streets such as Benjamin and Morris there were small deficits, while most cases yielded refunds. The council plans a new Shire valuation with an average 25 percent rate increase to achieve fairer assessments, noting some properties are under valued.
