Owing to possible permits for additional players the selectors could not finalise Sunshine side for the League Sub Districts meeting against South Melbourne. A tentative team is chosen with all listed players asked to report at 2 15 p m at the ground.
Mrs A. K. Stevens of Keilor Shire Council has long driven local charity efforts. Her recent St Albans school funds concert, led by Pop and Little Lady from 3AW and Melbourne Boys’ Club, raised eight pounds for the school. Maxam Cheese Co. sponsored the program with thanks from the School Committee and a call for local sample of the company’s cheese.
The Sunshine Branch of the United Australia Party holds its annual meeting at the Town Hall Supper Room this evening followed by a debate on removing the sale yards. Advocates include Dr A Ee Dedrick C Gross A Simpson N Donald W Lee and K McKay while the negative features Mears Grant A Gale Incher J Mortis G Reynolds and W Rooney. The public is invited.
A Sunshine public meeting backed a memorial for Hugh Victor McKay founder of the town. About £670 is in hand for a project, with a proposal to build a statue or a utilitarian memorial like a Baby Health Centre. The committee has not met recently and plans a future meeting to decide the way forward.
At the Sunshine Court H Moore of Shoubra Road Elsternwick faced Inspector Thorpe over alleged Braybrook Shire Building by law offences. The builder did not appear. A Maribyrnong Dunlop Street house visit found unsigned plans lacking the council seal. later letters named Moore as builder but the bench found insufficient evidence and dismissed the case.
A special Sunday afternoon service for parents and children of the Sabbath School will be held at 3 PM in the Church. The event includes the distribution of prizes and is a formal appeal to parents and all interested to attend.
Edmond Wilfen twenty from Watt Street Sunshine was injured while leaving Burnet Glass and Co in Footscray on Monday night. He stepped onto the road to avoid a car and was struck by a cyclist, suffering severe bruising to chest face and arm. He remained unconscious until Wednesday evening and is recovering at Caulfield Convalescent Hospital after initial treatment at Melbourne Hospital.
