Land reserved for factories eyed amid city plans

Officials discussed land held by ex Wihed firms and whether any area could be set aside for industrial use. A board recom mendation urged allocating mat land for industrial purposes near Furlongs Road, north of Shahire Road, to shift abattoirs and saleyards to the southwest corner of the City of Sunshine, linking roads toward the Maribyrnong River.

Sunshine Council Seeks Revisions to Master Plan Proposals

The council debates the MLM.B.W. master plan altering rural and residential zones in Maribyrnong and Ballarat rail area. It backs new arterial roads and asks the Board for policy if rural areas stay. A public lecture in Sunshine on Friday May 28 will explain plan amendments.

Sunshine Community Hospital Offers of Assistance Acknowledged

Sunshine Community Hospital thanked supporters at the monthly meeting for offers from the Lions Club to paint the hospital and for a repeat Old Royal Association Mile of Pennies drive in May. Plans include a barbecue radio concert charity port appeal competitions and a second annual hospital ball on July 16. Applications from girls for the debutante set are invited.

Death of William J Burden prominent local businessman

William J Burden a well known pen privateur of four radio shops in Hampshire Hout died suddenly on Saturday aged 58. He resided at Chitslile Street West Footscray and leaves a wife and one son. The funeral was held at Footscray Cemetery on Monday.

Rates Payment Reminder At Sunshine City

To avoid interest mil rates must be paid on or before 10 April. The rate office will open Saturday morning 10 April from 6:30 am to 10:30 am for rate payers. Otherwise payments can be made at the town hall on weekdays 6:30 am to 4:30 pm to avoid last minute rush.

Youth Sent to Gaol for Car Stealing

A teenager was sent to gaol after a car theft case heard at the court. The youth admitted taking a car from a driveway in Fitzroy and driving it through Liverge Street to the city before being arrested near Bitzray Police Station. The defendant claimed the vehicle belonged to his father and could not identify the car’s registration. Police testified about the ignition key and the vehicle’s movements after leaving a cinema with another youth.
