First Appearance of New J P Whiting at Sunshine Court

At the Sunshine court this morning the recently appointed Justice of the Peace Charles Whiting appeared on the bench for the first time. He was joined by Messrs W Andrew and J L Scott as the court opened. Andrew welcomed Mr Whiting and hoped he would attend regularly, citing his knowledge and advice as valuable for matters before the court.

Successful Function at Our Lady's Hall

On Thursday evening a fortnightly entertainment event opened at Our Lady's Park Hall for 240 attendees. Ern Roberts and his Vaga bonds provided music while E King acted as M C. prizes were won by Mrs O Donoghue and Mr A Carter with consolation prizes to Mrs Furzer Miss Henderson and Mr T McArdle. The next event is planned for March 21 with similar activities.

Football Clubs Prepare for Season

Last night a female Daisy became stuck in a cattle pit at the Anderson Road crossing near the railway. Local assistance from Mr L E Thorpe and railways halted trains for about thirty minutes while a Braybrook firm used a hoist to salvage the animal.

Grass Fire Fanned by Northerly Wind Near San Crescent

On Saturday a grass fire started on the railway reserve beside San Crescent and, driven by a hot north wind, grew into a wicked blaze. Workmen nearby fought it as dense smoke drifted through streets. Sunshine Fire Brigade arrived with theaters and soon contained the outbreak. No damage occurred.

Marry at East Malvern All Saints Church

On March 9 the marriage of Beryl Orchard and Lancell Clemson was held at All Saints Church East Malvern. The bride wore a lace gown with a long train and a veil held by an orange blossom wreath. Attendants wore ice blue cortelle dresses. reception followed at Everley with 60 guests. A future wedding for Miss Thirza Brook and Ronald Sharp is slated for March 30 at Paisley Street Baptist Church Footscray.

Sunshine Swimming Club Carnival Set For March 23

The Sunshine Swimming Club carnival will be held at the pool on Saturday March 23. Arrangements are complete and several notable swimmers will compete. The club seeks district residents support for its work and aims to provide new dressing sheds before the next season opens.

Reds beat Blues 2 1 in trial soccer match

Onside notes a windy day as the Reds win 2 to 1 over the Blues in a first trial game. Referee was E King and the clubs plan a visit from Sunshine club tomorrow to gain experience for 1.C.J. players. Players are asked to arrive by 2.45 p.m.

Birthday Party for Miss Rene Hauser at Hereford Road

About 50 guests gathered at Mr and Mrs Hauser residence to celebrate Miss Rene Hauser coming of age. Guests included Ray Roberts Stan Owens and others with dancing games singing and a tap recital by Dick Tyers. Miss Renes brief thank you and Mr N Donald’s closing gesture marked a joyful evening.
