Members of Sun Shine Church of Christ announce Mr J B Alcorn as new minister starting Sunday June 4. He is a respected preacher and is expected to lead the church to progress. all interested are invited to attend the services to meet him.
Victoria churches announce Special Young Peoples Services on Sunday June 5. Sunshine district plans include a Chil dren s Choir and Flannelgraph Talk by Mr B T Chirk with an evening Senior Young People choir led by Rev H Small on the theme Dont be a Fool. Deer Park hosts Sunday School Anniversary with morning service and a Film Service by Mr Eric Clarkson at night. Albion young people conduct morning worship with Mr Albert Drayton preaching evening. Sunshine hosts a Young Peoples Fellowship Tea with Mr B T Clark speaking Adventures Abroad.
The Deer Park Methodist Sunday School announces its anniversary next Sunday in Deer Park. Morning worship at 11 by Rev. Hugh Small and an evening film service at 7 led by Eric Clarkson.
Nominations closed with Hon. L. Coleman Labour member unopposed in Melbourne West Province where Sunshine is located. In Southern Province Keilor Shire area Hon. G. L. Chandler LCP also walked over. Winners will serve six year terms.
Opponents Cra Dobson and Pennell pushed to delay action on a ministerial excision proposal to shrink the Shire. March discussions outlined two plans reducing area to 574 or 72 square miles, both excluding Deer Park. A plebiscite was urged. Dr Parsons defended pursuing the excision while maintaining the Shire’s current arrangement for now.
Forty Sunshine Cricket and Football Club members and officials marched a half mile to his funeral after Ellison died at 17. The cortege moved to Fawkner Crematorium with many cars. Services were led by Rev F Sadler and Walter A Warne acted as funeral director. Pallbearers included C L Carlton J P Dr F Hayden A Beachley G Kirby T Laffan C Uther E Willey and K Tisdale.
A conference on extending bus routes will be held between Bray Rock Council and its Bus Advisory Committee representative Cr Een of Footscray on Tuesday next.
Shire Secretary reports only seven of fifteen liable objectors lodge formal protest in the Sunshine Heights Estate street making plan. Of eighty blocks, two belong to objectors, while Sunshine Golf Club faces the largest bill with twenty one blocks and a liability of £3008 of the total £9894 street making charges.
The Legislative Committee reviews a draft by law to curb noisy itinerant carnivals and loudspeakers in Sunshine. It would require permissions for public wireless advertising and grant the Council discretionary powers for enforcement.
Braybrook Shire Council's Finance Committee on Monday granted a donation of £50 toward the Victorian Benevolent Societies appeal to purchase a property in Scot Vale for a home for aged folk. Dr Pennell favoured £100 but the amount was reduced due to ongoing maintenance costs. The local Benevolent Society was praised for years of service.
John M. Pell of Riddell Creek Two Hills is endorsed as Liberal and Country Party candidate for the federal seat of Lalor Me. Pell, a Riddell Creek Co operative Society chairman, served in the ADE from 1930 with campaigns in the U K Egypt Greece Syria and New Guinea. He has been Romsey Shire Councillor and a Riddell’s Creek Waterworks Trust member and is active in the Liberal and Country Party State Council.
Melbourne newspaperman Mr. John J. Balding of Wea ribee announced his candidacy for Labour Party pre selection in the State Electorate of Grant. Nominations close this weekend with a possible June ballot. Balding, 82, a returned soldier with A L artillery, advocates moderate labour policy and anti Communist stance, favoring wider elector contact and vigorous support for electorate causes.
An urgent request seeks a house hall or rooms for use of economy tenants. Inquiries are to be directed to F. Rigby, assistant at Robinson's Newsagency, Sun time.
Odours from a Braybrook chemical factory prompted nearby workers to threaten resignations. The Braybrook Council heard the issue on Monday with Drayton and Dr. Dempster noting prior odour complaints, while the Headteacher of Hravybrook State School sent a health department complaint.
Albion Horvinge Cay secured last week’s Braybrook Shire contract to surface roads. The project aims to maximize local work and minimize costs, with Cre Durelay praising the price as well within reason.
