Inspector Walkes Resigns After Three Month Pay Agreement
In a dispute with the Shire over the inspector Me W Walkes, an agreement was reached where he resigns in exchange for three months pay. He had been suspended in February after a council decision to economize, with the Health Commission demanding an explanation. The commission found no evidence of incompetence but approved a rehire with conditions. The council and inspector clashed over the clause, and an adjournment led to the final proposal. The town’s popularity of Mr Wallis contrasts with the uneasy outcome.
