Patriotic Committee Seeks Boost for Street Giving Appeal
A combined meeting of the Patriotic Committee and Street-Giving Appeal collectors was held at Shire Hall on Friday July 7 led by Dr T R Barclay. They discussed increasing weekly contributions from the appeal, which has raised £6408/8d in 3.5 years but fallen from £410 weekly to about £1 0 weekly amid population growth. Mr R V Seymour reported low expenses for Direct Giving efforts and plans to canvass Ashley Street Cash Street recently. A sub committee was formed to finalise proposals and publicize them soon.

Sunshine Court Convictions For Highway Violations
Edgar W Abbett was arrested driving a truck at 45 mph on the Western Highway near Deer Park and fined £5 in default distress for exceeding the 15 mph limit. Stephen Roberts was convicted for a similar offence on Ballarat Road with a truck at 30 mph and fined £5. Albert George Saunders paid £7 for exceeding the load limit by over one ton. James Morell was fined £1 for missing the current year's registration sticker on his truck windscreen.
