The Police Department reported buses struggle to pull in and off while loading passengers along Monash Street and near Bray School. Doctors urged immediate bays, calling the situation urgent. The council will seek a contribution from the C.R.B. and Tram to cover costs.
SUNSHINE Court on Tuesday re heard a damages claim involving Ivan Ferenac who said Anton Gawel assaulted him with a stone. The defendant admitted throwing the stone but claimed self defence. Ferenac alleged provocation and damages of £15 with costs awarded. Dent. DG Wilson for Ferenac and H Strausa for Gawel.
Health inspector G A Little reports that a World Health Organization committee found poliomyelitis enters the body through the mouth and spreads like enteric diseases. Precautions include hand washing before meals and after toilets, and keeping closets fly proof with proper construction and maintenance.
Tomorrow's pre selection ballot in the Grant district covers a large industrial zone under the two for one redistribution plan. The field includes Dr J Castley Sunshine G F Brick Sunshine L Frey Ballant J Jayce nroy A Skewes Nth Endony. Eligible voters include ALP members with tickets and union members on the electoral roll. Unionists should bring peace cards with receipts or financial statements to polling booths. Polling places include Sunshine Town Hall Glengala Road Sunshine Heights Work Shop Keillor Road Keilor East and several other halls. Polls run 9 am to 7 pm.
Mr K W Young the new general Inspector told Sunshine Council that after warnings to motorists the traffic problem has greatly improved. One hourly parking areas now have more space for shopping motorists as yellow kerbs at bus stops in Hampshire Road near the railway gates and Devonshire Road keep stops clear for buses. Prosecutions are pending against offenders and councillors praised Mr Young for his efforts. He noted attention to traffic crossings materials on nature strips drain pipes trees and fallen fences.
Frost memorial book presented to Sunshine in memory of Mr. J. L. Scott former Braybrook Shire president and esteemed citizen. The donation, handed over by Dr. Parsons, honors the late Ex-Dr. J. L. Scott and his enduring public service.
The resignation will be effective from 14th August next. Appointment of Mr T W Deutschmann to succeed Mr Hargreaves was endorsed and an agreement signed with Mr Hargreaves regarding his post as administrative officer in charge of the private streets construction program. Mr Green moved that Deutschmann’s appointment be acting only, but there was no seconder.
Sunshine Councillors were told by city engineer Mr. Robinson that about £2000 is needed to finish the band hall erected by Sunshine City Band in Stanford Street. The deputation had asked for a tithe transfer, which was refused. Suggestions included using Southern Ward funds with later revenue from hall rentals, and the matter was referred to Southern Ward councillors.
Theo M. Nicholson, manager of the A N Z Bank at Sunshine, is appointed to manage the new Rabaul branch. Nicholson departs Sunshine at month end after eighteen months at the Sunshine branch. His successor will be R E White of Daylesford.
Edward Colliver and Bronius Magevicius faced court after a June incident at a hotel bar. Magevicius, 60 Yallourn Street West Sunshine, warned that future offenses would bring heavier penalties. Colliver, 25 Myalla Street, admitted prior DUI and resisting arrest. Witnesses described a fight and broken glass as Magevicius lunged and shouted. Colliver reported hip pain. police noted the man appeared to have been in a skirmish. Fines: Magevicius £1 for drunkenness and £15 for assault, plus costs. Colliver fined £1 or 4 hours, and £15 or six weeks with costs.
Durhan motorists fined £1 each for parking more than ten inches from the curb. Names include Frederick Alexander, William Barr, Graham Bult, Robert McIntyre, Stanley Stewart, Eric Cheeseman, Eugenie Lapaenis and others from Sunshine and Deer Park. Sunshine ESS.A.LLA committee meets Monday night at 8 pm. Tickets available for smoke night on Friday July 30 at club rooms. Fortnightly social tomorrow evening in July.
The Sunshine Council discussed the inquiry into police station facilities on Monday. Dr. N Green criticized the district for lacking proper facilities while plans for a new station were approved and listed as high priority. Dr. Dempster praised Hon. A E Shepherd MLA for two years of effort, noting delays. the Board of Works was asked to extend a sewer to the site in Sam Crescent to connect shops nearby.
Efforts to curb wandering stock were frustrated on Tuesday as several defendants were fined for allowing cattle to wander unattended. Wray Conischanoasl, 62 Chesney Street. Joseph Cremona, 14 Blackmore St. Pius Manezenko, 147 Suspension Street. Krud Pantovitech, McLaughlin Street. James Rockett, Northumberland Horned. Thomas Rockett, Northumberland Ftead. Paul Spiteri, 42 Weat morelind Romed were fined 1 to 5 pounds. Costa of 2/6 allowed in each case. Justice of the Peace T. Barelay commented to Thomas Rockett that he should not accept the 5-pound fine.
The Housing Commission proposes a two unit per flat elderly housing block on an estate off South Sunshine, with every unit to house a married couple. The plan was discussed and then commended by Sunshine Council on Monday.
