Braybrook Council staff could handle current work with fewer contractors, urged by Dr. H Dempster. Councillors debated wages, noting outdoor staff underpayment and rival factories’ amenities, and then deferred the motion until wage awards were issued.
Braybrook Council's Public Works Committee authorised the Engineer to submit a list of materials required by the Shire to the Municipal Association. The aim is to import necessary materials duty free to overcome a backlog in municipal works.
The Annual Ball of the Sunshine Technical School Ex-Students Association will be held in the Shire Hall tonight. Dancing will be to Jimmy Jensen's Hawaiian Dance with Mr. Dion Baker as MC. A special feature will be the Belle of the Ball competition.
St Albans residents are asked to assist in tree planting on the Pinnacle Estate Point. Trees marked by the Shire Engineer in Walmer Ave. A meeting is set for Tuesday July 5 at Mrs. F. Landers home Victoria Crescent. Ladies and girls invited to join. Kindergarten spinning wheel event at Footscray on July 9 to aid the Footscray Hospital Building Appeal.
The Health Committee discussed the proposed Infant Welfare Centre for Sunshine. Dr F Hayden moved to defer the decision pending a sub committee review of suitable sites. Dr Barrett urged a rapid meeting as the matter had been outstanding for years.
Council heard concerns over temporary accommodation on building sites and the risk of selling two rooms before completion. Dr Barrett urged full framework erection before occupancy while others favored stricter bylaw to match standards of Braybrook and prevent slums. The matter moves to next meeting for a formal policy shift.
An informal week talk among many friends announces Dr. A. Beachley as retiring candidate. Norman G. Green will act as campaign secretary for Beachley. A strong committee forms and many leading citizens are expected to support his return.
Small attendance at the Radio Concert but a pleasant evening. July 11th meeting set for the club. Dance on July 6th tickets via the Secretary. Basketball meeting at Shire Hall Monday at 7 16 p.m. Girls urged to attend. All matches canceled for transport but practice at 2 p.m. Last Saturday results list three matches with scores and opponents.
Obituaries report Mrs Paulig of Deer Park passing after illness at Sunshine Hospital and Mrs Sarah Ellen Jenkins of Springvale dying in her sleep at her son's home. Also noted is the death of J G Hauser, 71, former Albion Masonic Past Master, with funeral at Fawkner Crematorium. Families include Stan Paulv and Allan Jenkins. services held at local churches and Woodend or Footscray Cemetery contextually referenced.
Sunshine Cricket Club marked its first premiership with a social evening at the Masonic Hall. Councillors from Up Shire on Biyvhreok attended along with cricket and sport representatives. Ken Berrel received a silver cake, and a framed team photo was presented to President G Carlton by A Beachley.
Housing Commission suggests bitumen footpaths for Maidstone Housing scheme due to cement shortages. This method has been successful in other suburban areas and is being considered as an alternative in the project plans.
Braybrook Council will accept an offer to supply free street rubbish receptacles in exchange for advertising rights. The receptacles, made by a New Zealand firm, are used worldwide and are considered hygienic and more popular with the public due to their modern appearance.
