Letter from Abroad by Lance Corporal Chas Clough
An intense wartime letter describes Charles Clough's eight months in the Egyptian desert and his trek from the canal to Palestine. He recounts desert sand, shifting dunes, supply hardships, and the long road through Rafah and Jaffa to Tel Aviv and Beirut, noting orange groves, modern cities, and mounting fatigue. He reflects on the Arab towns, ancient ruins, and the beauty of Lebanon’s hills before ending with a personal note to his family in Australia.
