Local feature lauds Mr W Roberts as a popular Sunshine resident who built a private swimming pool for friends. The pool, fed by a spring from a nearby quarry, is about three to four feet deep with a concrete bottom and planned improvements to create a better spot for warm days.
Assistant Scoutmaster Galbraith of the 1st Sunshine troop is named a member of the Victorian contingent bound for the 1937 jamboree in Holland. He plans to depart Melbourne on Easter Tuesday and join coronation festivities in England before a Swiss detour and a July return to Holland.
The Sunshine Band under Mr George Mulgrew will travel to Cowes for an Easter band contest. About 40 members are expected to go, and the group is in top form and confident of success and prizes. A funds appeal is launched to cover trip expenses.
A pipe allows drainage of stagnant water and flow of clean water into the pool. The surroundings are dull to an artist, yet the pool’s usefulness is acknowledged. Mr Roberts is not stingy and welcomes many friends to use the pool, more than before.
The Deer Park Cycle Club held a four mile handicap race with few entries. Fastest time was 10 minutes by unknown rider. J Roy is noted for upcoming wedding on February 2 The club invites members and friends to a reception at St Luke's Church Somerville Road Yarraville at 8 pm. Bus schedule for Hanging Rock picnic departs Footscray Maidstone Lynch's Corner Albion Gates and Deer Park with prices 3 shillings for adults 6 pence for children. If favorable weather the destination may move to a beach resort with tickets 2 shillings each.
Ernest Bedggood of Cambrian Hill faced Sunshine court for driving beyond his licence. Transport Board evidence showed his permit limited travel Buninyong to Geelong, yet on November 6 he was stopped on Ballarat Road near Sunshine admitting pay per ton. He was fined £3 with 8 shillings costs.
A fragment shows a speaker chiding a car devotee for prioritizing driving over family. The line questions putting a wife before the car and hints at a domestic tension around soundness of judgment in choosing interests over personal relations.
In Footscray, evidence shows Sydney Barlow, of Middle Road, Maribyrnong, failed to stop after a collision with Barlow’s small car in Barkly Street. A truck driver testified the small bus emerged from Gordon Street at about 30 to 365 mph, and Barlow admitted brake failure. He was fined £1 for failure to stop and £6 for driving with inefficient brakes, plus costs.
A social evening will be held in St Albans Hall soon to honor the forthcoming marriage of Miss Gladys Bell and Mr Thomas Smith, both noted young residents of the district.
Aunt Maria recalls a figure calling himself an inspector of nuisances who came round last week. He said he did not want to enter since her father was out, promised more to follow, and noted a wire from friends. The old man’s swearing caused a penny in the pot and the landlord watched closely as seven shillings were paid.
