Sunshine People Welcome Queen and Duke in Melbourne

The Sunshine strong-post near Essendon aerodrome welcomed the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh as crowds packed the site on Wednesday. City council staff prepared the post through rain and early morning hours, with elderly citizens seated and about 200 seniors plus 20 children transported to the event. The Royal visit drew cheers as the car passed, many feeling the Queen’s beauty met expectations while noting her small frame.

Keilor Welcomes Victoria with Giant Boomering Sign

At the edge of Keilor English Street and Lanesfield Road a large Boomer ing welcome sign with a crowned banner reads The Ratepayers of the Shires of Keilor and Broadmeadows Welcome You to Victoria. Dr H J Lake of the Keilor Council built the sign. Early arrivals heard amplified music until noon and Hawthorn City Pipe Band performed thereafter. All Shire schoolchildren received an illustrated Queen portrait souvenir flag.

Fireworks Display At Gardens Reserve Draws Thousands

A large crowd attended the Gardens Reserve fireworks show on Tuesday as part of Royal Visit celebrations. Over thirty minutes rockets lit the night sky with bursts of colored stars and a crown topped Queen’s head outline as the finale. Phoenix Fireworks Pty Ltd organized the event.

Huge Crown Tower Decorates Sunshine Town Hall

The 65 ft tower crown at H V McKay Massey Harris Pty Ltd lights up nightly weighing about four hundredweight and containing over 0 electric globes. Norm Coventry led design, Les King and Rex Livett built it, and Jim Higgins handled electrical work. A Queen photo decorates the town hall balcony as Norge Street and Monash Street feature bright house and shop displays. a Sunday children's party will be held with tables set on the street.

Royal Visit Civic Service at Sunshine Town Hall

The Ministers' Fraternal arranged a civic service at Sunshine Town Hall on Sunday at 8 p.m. to commemorate the Royal Visit to Victoria. Local boy scouts and girl guides will parade. Rev. E A Biggs of Sunshine Church will give the address.

Work Commenced on RSL War Memorial

RSL Sunshine Branch in Dickson Street begins construction of a cenotaph memorial to World Wars I and II. Designed by David Moore, built by Smedley and McDonald with brown gray stone surrounds and a cream Stawell freestone cenotaph bearing an inscription for fallen servicemen.

Tiger snake killed near town centre

A tiger snake was killed near the town centre after being spotlighted by car headlights. The incident occurred near the Station Place playgrounds and on the roadway toward the Railway homes, with timing described as around dusk on a Monday.
