Dr and Mrs A G Pennell extend sincere Christmas wishes to Braybrook Shire residents and all Australians. They urge cooperation to deny petty quarrels and ensure a prosperous New Year with peace and joy, pledging councillors’ loyalty to local interests for a pleasant year ahead.
The piece portrays Christmas as a democratic festival honoring working men the Wise Men as thinkers serving leadership, and the Holy Family as humble folk. It argues Christianity is for all and urges industrial peace in Australia through shared ethical conduct, urging readers to enact the angelic song.
Shire President Dr AL G Pennell entertained councillors their wives staff and visitors at a Town Hall dinner. Guests received floral sprays and festive table decor. Speakers toasted Mr and Mrs W Matheson on their marriage with a silver basket presentation.

After a brief illness George Laming of 65 Hampshine Road Sunshine died at a private hospital aged 61. He led a respected business life in Sunshine, was English born, and served during wartime. His eldest son Gordon Lyaming was killed in an air crash. He leaves a widow, two daughters, and a son in Erkan. Funeral from Tobin's Parlors Flemington Road Melbourne to Melbourne General Cemetery. A Christmas morning service led by Dr Vine will be conducted at 10 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church at Sunshine. The event invites congregants to join in the holiday worship and carols.
Keilor Council debated separating St Albans from the Shire amid opposition from residents. Dr Dickson condemned any move to sever and warned against transfer to Braybrook as the St Albans Progress Association pressed the issue. The council resolved to oppose severance and inform the association of its stance.
To permit staff a holiday there will be no issue on December 27 or January 3. The next issue appears Friday January 10. Suburban papers follow the plan and correspondents and advertisers should submit copy promptly after the New Year.
This week and next, a double ballot is offered to policyholders to gain additional spending money for Christmas gifts. An invitation to join the Clothing Insurance program is extended with a new group starting January 3rd, 1047, listing successful ballot numbers for this period.
