The Sunshine Football Club hosts an Athletic Night on Tuesday September 3 with a Boxing section featuring Jack Carroll Terry Riley Kid Rooney and others plus wrestling exhib itions by Harry Cousins and Pat Pawson. Alan McRae and Alex Munro meet in a key boxing match and MacRae brings a famed Melbourne entertainer.
At a well attended Sunshine Bowling Club meeting at the pavilion officers for the coming season were elected. President is Dr E C Treloar with vice presidents W J Andrew H Thompson D McLean H Oakes G Penrose and A R Johnston. Secretary F Grigg Assistant Secretary W J Coakes Treasurer W Roach. Y B A delegates Grigg and Coakes. Selection committee Johnston Coakes Baxter. Ladies Club chaired by Mrs F Grigg with officers A R Johnston and H Andrewartha. Green opens Saturday September 14 ahead of pennant game on October B.
Changes to mail departure times from Sunshine take effect September 2 with the 2.65 am service moved to 3.35 pm and 3.00 pm closing. Sunshine Methodist Church holds a morning service by Rev Levi Walton and an evening Youth Service led by Mr A Lowe. Maidstone Methodist Church marks its anniversary with services. Rev G R Godbehear preaches in the morning and Rev Levi Walton leads the 3 pm and evening sessions. A Monday concert features Ascot Vale Salvation Army band and other artists. Sunshine residents praise postal honesty after a letter delivered with banknotes exposed. Sunshine Younger Set postpones its meeting to September 11. Mothers’ Club hosts a Sunshine State School children’s fancy dress ball on September 19. Albert Jacobs of Hampshire Road Sunshine is charged at Werribee court for riding an unregistered motorcycle on July 10.
Sunshine faces Fairfield at Northcote ground tomorrow in a preliminary final amid optimism after a defeat to Kew. They aim to counter Fairfield’s vigorous approach with pace and system, hoping to run the opponents off their feet and set up a potential rematch with Ken. Transport arrangements for players and supporters are noted, with 60 supporters provided for.
