Council Elections This Saturday Braybrook Shire vote faces two ridings

The Braybrook Shire municipal election is set for Saturday with contests in Southern and Western ridings. A. E. Notte of Labor aims to unseat Dr. A. Headley in the Southern Riding while Dr. A. Vonnell opposes A. J. Boyd and J. W. Costley in the Western Riding where few voters on the roll may decide preferences.

Window smashing charge at Sunshine Court

Bailey faced two counts of breaking and entering at Sunshine Court. Prosecution said a display window at R K McDonald chemist and J E Fox pastry shop was smashed and pens plus items valued at £25 were taken. Witnesses identified pens found with Bailey. he pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial.

Sunshine Cricket Club Social at Masonic Hall

Death of John Barclay of Sunshine at 52

John Barclay of 6 Watt Street Sunshine died after a short illness on Wednesday. He was 52 and survived by a wife, two sons, and two daughters. Brother of Dr Reg Burslay, he spent over 20 years with HV McKay Massey Harris Pty Ltd, including 20 years as the firm’s representative in the Mildura district. Funeral at Footscray Cemetery with services by Rev FP Sadler.

The Late Mr W H Cox

The text notes the death of Mr. W H Cox on Sunday morning. He was a sociable local benefactor active in district society and served as Maas President of the Nuit Fut eray ANA and Past President of ALP Branch Maidstone. He was deputy to the Sunshine State Elect orate Council and helped found the Western Suburbs Operative Society. Sympathy is expressed to his widow and two children.

Braybrook Council Grants £2000 for Sun Dune Redevelopment

Braybrook Shire Council decided to offer £2000 to the Sun dune Region for tin tranch it occupies near the Shire Hall. Funds will be used to clear plots for the church’s new building at Dickson Street. Council hopes the RSL will vacate the Shire Vale by war’s end, with some members arguing the move is generous but lacks principle.

Extra Sunday Trains Extend Melbourne Sun Travel

Railway officials have agreed to add two new Sunday trains on the Shine line to serve Melbourne travelers. Timetable changes will follow restoration of the normal schedule, expected Monday. The new services will depart from Plinders at 6 46 am and 8 10 am, with connections to St Albans.
