A Braybrook letter to the editor claims 1400 signatures and 18 groups support a deputation to the Minister for Transport over proposed higher rail fares. The writer accuses Dr. Pennell of red baiting for not attending, insisting all citizens unite despite politics to oppose the increase.
Crs Barrett and Skinner of the Sraybrook Council grew irritated at a Monday meeting when the West Maribyrnong Progress Association sought a deputation. The council demanded full details first. Dr. Barrett claimed he could provide the information. Dr. Skinner protested the association bypassing riding representatives.
Eric George Donahow of Drummartin Street Sunshine was found guilty of being drunk in charge of a car and of resisting constable Power. The bench fined £10 and cancelled his driving licence plus £3 for resisting arrest. The case was adjourned with a full report delayed due to space.
Miss Lases Presser Patricia Kely and Katelle Leckie showcase for Miss Australia Quest at Sunshine Social Club event in support of Miss Lases Presser. Candidates presented to Lord Mayor at Melbourne Town Hall. Patricia Kelly to be interviewed on SAW next Thursday at 4.00. A Sunshine Younger Set Ball Friday August 20 will feature the girls with proceeds benefiting.
Matron A C Nancarrow resigns from the Community Hospital due to ill health after guiding the institution since its opening last September. Pending a successor, Sister O Mands will act as Matron and staff express regret and best wishes for her recovery.
The Braybrook Council held a meeting on Monday where the Shire Engineer described the proposed swimming pool as a very costly project. He noted plans were in progress and further cost details would follow.
Braybrook council authorises the Shire Engineer to contact an architect for preparing plans for the proposed Raby Health Centre.
The Dads Association will hold its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the R.S.L. Clubrooms.
The Easton campaign committee urges ratepayers to vote on Thursday August 28 for a young businessman with organising experience as a strong successor to Dr F C Stenson. They state he has no party ties and would push municipal development to boost revenue and amenities, with R W Yeomans endorsing the notice.
Braybrook Shire President Dr A G Pennell offered best wishes to retiring Crs Hayden and Stevenson who face opposition at the municipal meet. Dr Barrett was congratulated on returning unopposed. Hayden Stevenson each said they would be disappointed not to return. Dr Barrett expressed intent to stay and watch future shire progress.
The adjourned annual meeting elected Percy Scott as Social Secretary and announced use of Dr A G Pennell’s land off Ballarat Road for cricket. The ground will offset the loss of Selwyn Park and a pavilion is hoped to be built. Next general meeting set for September 1 at the rear hall of the Picture Theatre.
Braybrook Council met on Monday and heard a deputation on removing Newmarket saleyards. Drs. McDonaly and Barrett were elected to represent Braybrook to the Premier. The council backs Shepherd as district rep on the QM,L,D Hospital Board and notes Selwyn Park cricket unlikely this season due to a recent decision.
Former art teacher Colin Hont presents a paintings exhibition at Koxuminsky Galleries, Little Collins Street, Melbourne. It runs from August 24 to September 6 with a formal opening next Tuesday by John F Scarborough.

Poll set for August 30 1947 from 8am to 3pm at multiple halls Sunshine and surrounding venues under Preferential Voting rules.
