Anglers Set Record Catch At Werribee

Sunshine anglers gathered at Werribee for a day of sport marred by calm fish. The club’s total weighed 152 lb 2 oz with Jock Sheppard taking the trophy by landing 28 flathead for 24 lb 6 oz. George Brown placed second with 25 flathead weighing 20 lb 8 oz and C Dagg was third with 38 flathead at 18 lb 9 oz. A large run of gurnet swamped one boat, while Brown’s bag included a six-pounder. The event drew 227 flathead, a rock cod and two roughies, with the average 10 oz. A next outing is planned in three weeks, followed by the final freshwater contest of the season before bay and estuary events close the month.
