A letter complains of mental anguish from gate delays at rail crossings. It cites pedestrians blocked by closed gate timing, causing trains to be missed and thousands of man-hours lost yearly. Council will forward the letter to Railways Commissioners for action and notes previous Transport Ministry attention.
SUNSHINE Council decided on Monday to purchase a 265 acre site of Oak Street Aray brook for use as a garbage tip. The terms and conditions were flat disclosed more has there been any announcement regarding the effect of the purchase on the problem of trash disposal and collection.
An analysis of Kororoit Creek between Forrest Street pool and Derby Road reveals cross pollution from household and industrial discharge. The Sunshine Council inspector says the creek is not suitable for swimming until all waste water is diverted to the nearby sewer system. Despite unfitness, residents used the creek this summer, with some undressing near a warning sign.
Sunshine Council learned on Monday that plans for a proposed new police station could be completed within a few weeks. Officials said the project remains a priority work for the municipality.

A. F. Van Der Vierk of 8 Ridley Street had an application to erect a two room bungalow at the rear of a house on a 60 by 210 foot block. Sunshine Council refused on Monday though planning officials urged approval citing need for space and air. Dr A Beachley supported permission noting large families. inspector and city engineer varied in view, while the town clerk noted council cannot refuse if space and regs are met.
A Sunshine Court hearing linked a near midnight driving incident on Sunshine Road to the compulsory voting rule debate. Dr N Green argued enforcement is impossible and vowed to seek rescission of the motion. Witnesses described zigzagging, near-collision driving and a car weaving toward oncoming traffic, with one driver convicted on dangerous driving charges and fined.
Parts of Sunshine will share in the 640,000 programme of the MUMULW to improve water supply for Melewins sub. The plan covers major projects including over 21 miles of new mains. A new main from Tottenham to Sunshine is budgeted to reduce past summer failures and ensure uninterrupted supply in hot weather.
A Sunshine forthural Society Autumn Show showcased a record number of exhibits across all sections. The mayor H Skinner praised the society and Royal Horticultural Society guest L Saunders. Prizes included Fawkner Medal to Mrs Robertson and blue ribbons for best data, vase arrangements, gladioli, and made up displays. A W Thompson and Mrs Robertson received top section prizes. show secretary A Klix organized the event.
The rate office will be open until 6 pm next Friday to handle last minute rush for rate payments. It will operate from 4 50 am to 1 20 am on Saturday 11th April. Rates must be paid to avoid arrest. Goods valued at £5 were stolen from Alf Faulkner's shop in Devonshire Road on Monday night.
A Bun Wine Council meeting discussed completing the road deviation between Monga Street and South Bend this year. Residents highlighted unsafe conditions on Duke Street north of Yoonah Street and the need for tighter enforcement on various sites. The council referred the issue to the SEC, noting Duke Street can’t join the Central Ward works list for this year.
A public meeting on Thursday will discuss the local swimming pool project. Mayors and officials will attend to review proposed plans and funding, with community input requested.
Mayor Dr. H Skinner commented on a Sunshine Council meeting where four council officers did not attend a conference with Sunshine Football Club representatives at Selwyn Park. Football delegates arrived late and left before the mayor, prompting a postponement and plans for a further conference with the council and reserve committee.
