Mr James Campbell of Montrose and Mr Martin, a teacher, ambushed a very large old bear in the western island woods after it had killed three sheep in Campbell’s pasture. They fired as darkness fell and the bear fell. The crowd gathered to view the bear, said to weigh 400 pounds or more. Campbell and Martin praised as skilled sportsmen.

At a meeting held on the 20th alt. it was agreed the locality from Mr. Johnsons on the Malpeque Road to the Presbyterian Church at Strathalbyn including parts of Townships 22 28 and 31 be called Dantinaron. I C Hat opened a Fresh Fish Depot in Charlottetown selling fish from the North Shore. The Royal Canadian Bank of Toronto has failed. Oysters shipped from this port since navigation opened and a law forbidding their export or catching is now in force. The Rev Mr Frame and wife left for Boston for a few weeks. An advertisement for a new mowing machine, The Climax, will appear at Mr J F Bakers for exhibition and full description to follow.
