Mystery Snakes Dwindle At Narcisse Dens Report
Department of Natural Resources experts report an unusual season with only about 500 garter snakes appearing at Narcisse Snake Dens, far below the tens of thousands typical for Mother's Day peak. Frost, cooler rain, and extended hibernation may delay or dilute the annual mating gathering, with researchers uncertain about the cause. The DNR will monitor through summer and address any population concerns in fall as National Geographic and NBC plan fall visits.
