Fire Destroys Warren Garage in Evening Blaze
A. E. Lawson Sales Ltd garage and Implement building at Warren was destroyed by fire after 6 p.m. The one story structure, housing tractors and an automobile, burned within about an hour. Estimated losses include 25 000 in machinery and parts and 10 000 in tools, with building value at 35 000. Insurance covered about 60 percent. The cause remained undetermined. Seven years earlier a fire on the same site leveled another machine shop.

New General Course for Grade X in Stonewall
Stonewall Collegiate will offer a new General Course at Grade X next school year. The program targets Manitoba students seeking a broad education without university plans and was developed over two years. Businessmen welcomed the course and a June 5 meeting informed Grade IX parents about options and cooperation needed.

Scotty Bryce a long time Member of Parliament for Selkirk endorses Valdi Amason as his party successor at a Gimli New Democratic Party dinner on May 20. The event raised funds for the campaign with $10 per couple. about 100 attendees enjoyed turkey, an old-time sing song, and speeches from Violet Hinarson Magnus Eliason and Russell Paulkcy.

Legion Convention in Halifax Observes D-Day Anniversary
The Royal Canadian Legion gathers 1100 veterans in Halifax for the 18th D-Day anniversary observance during its 19th biennial convention opening June 3. Four days of business will include 430 resolutions and reports on veterans issues and clinics led by Geoffrey Dyson.

Interlake Districts Hold Caboree At Stonewall And Camporee At Matlock
The 2nd Annual Interlake Caboree opened at Kinsmen Lake Stonewall with a march past and races. Gimli led scoring, followed by Selkirk Stonewall Stony Mountain and others. District flashes were awarded and packs received bones souvenirs. A District Scout Camporee occurred at Matlock May 25 27 with 35 patrols and multiple troops earning district flashes. The next District Meeting is set for Toulon on Friday June 8.

Adjustment Payments on Wheat and Durum Issued by Canadian Wheat Board
Canada distributed 20.47 million dollars in 1961 62 wheat and Durum adjustment cheques to producers. Alberta Saskatchewan and Manitoba totals are given, with per bushel adjustments of 10 cents for wheat and 75 cents for Durum. Prime Minister Diefenbaker announced the plan last February.
