Slogan Attacks Churchill Riding Change At Boundaries Hearing

Dr. Joe Slogan MP for Springfield told Manitoba Electoral Boundaries Commission hearings in Winnipeg that a Churchill like riding would be the greatest gerrymander in Canadian history. He argued Churchill already had enough population and criticized the process for not publishing protest procedures and for delaying hearings until after the federal election. He said Springfield and Selkirk were disadvantaged by boundary splits, noted local services centered in Selkirk and Pine Falls, and urged a centrally located riding with clearer renamed boundaries. He warned that Springfield’s identity was erased by the changes and criticized other parties for not showing interest.
