Great Falls notes list residents taking extended vacations to Ottawa Gilbert Plains and Toronto with families and visitors from Winnipeg. Local homes near the highways south of Great Falls are under construction as carpenters push to finish before winter. The Great Falls School opened Aug 30 with several new beginners and staff including Miss Dyck and Mr Jorgenson. A birthday party for Mrs Ortwein featured Canasta and bridge with tea and lunch.
Mai NL Hovey was appointed district supervisor for The Manitoba Power Commission at Powerview succeeding G Naismith who was transferred to Brandon. Hovey had long experience with the Commission in construction and operating departments and was located at Necenawa at the time of appointment. He has already assumed his duties at Powerview. The region now covered is more than 29,000 square miles of scenic territory.
Edmonton couple announces the engagement of Audrey Mary Nimchuk to Paul Wasvienko formerly of Seven Sisters Falls. The Sept 29 wedding will be at St Johophats Cathedral Edmonton. Mrs Mary Wasvienko will travel to Edmonton for the ceremony then visit Vancouver relatives. Community updates include TV set sales, preparations for the World Series and Grey Cup, local club events, and vacations of residents in Rockford Ontario and Wawa Ontario.
Obituary notices record funerals and interments for Donald Altstadt aged 10 at Lutheran Church River Halls Marin Res Ko Parna with interment at Church vard Cemetery. Steve Brezina aged 61 of Beausejour died August 31 with service by Bishop Misiaszek and interment at Polish National Cemetery. Alex Mikoweh aged 65 of Green Oak Man died August 27 at Ladywood Greek Catholic Church with interment at Churchyard Cemetery. Other survivors and details include numerous family members and residences in Beausejour Brokenhead Libau Winnipeg Detroit Ontario and Tar- areas.
The Week editor recalls editor Edgar Dunning reporting a subdivision project once linked to the late Bertrand Galloway. Galloway replies that he is alive and partly blames the living for the mislabeling, sending a cheque to restore his status as a live citizen.
Mr J Krupa has been appointed a district supervisor for the Manitoba Commission at Whitemouth succeeding Mr Rohicoct transferred to Steinbach. He brings considerable experience with the Commission in both its construction and other work. He assumed his duties at White Mouth.
Plans for the Fiftieth Anniversary Service of St John’s Anglican W A in Lac du Bonnet include a church service on September 1 and a community turkey dinner on September 17 in Memorial Hall. The first fall W A meeting had 19 members, with devotional led by Mrs Hardy, readings, reports, and a social lunch.
The obituary notes Mrs Tam Kruchuk of Bonville Ontario has two daughters Nettie living in Bermuda and in South America, and a brother in Transcona Manitoba, plus four grandchildren.
Theodor Patzer died at his Beausejour home on Sept 5. Born in Russia in 1885 he immigrated to Canada 46 years ago, farmed in the Thalberg district until retirement, and is survived by his wife Rozela and children Leonard Dan Harry, plus 22 grandchildren. Interment was at Beau Sejour Cemetery with Russell Funeral Home in charge.
Wedding vows were exchanged in a double ring ceremony at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Winnipeg on Saturday Sept 1 at 3 30 pm. Margaret Eleanore Zech became the bride of Arnold Gerard Gesell with Rev Raths officiating and music by Mrs Raths. The couple will reside in Winnipeg.
Mrs Nellie Kozier and Mr Nick Kozier traveled from Dryden Ont to visit his brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Steve Kozier Jim and Jean over a long weekend. Jane Nieser and Rene Xavier received doctor treatments for poronyx. Alex Romaniher spent the weekend at home on his farm near Dryden. Nettie Romanishen lent a hand for the extended weekend.
Pine Falls hosted a Labor Day event sponsored by the Trades and Labor Council featuring a fishing derby and softball tournament. Winners included LaFrance for a $50 prize, Webb of Winnipeg, Sinneck of Great Falls, Inkster and Albertson, with Ray Wanick taking a top prize of 24 000. Five teams, Milner Ridge, Oakbank, Beausejour, Pine Falls, and Selkirk, competed. a Recreation Hall venue hosted games and a prize draw sponsored by Gate and Fish.
Beausejour Homemaking Institute hosts its initial fall meeting on September 4 with RCMP Constable Robert Ward presenting Canada Arctic lands via slides. Aimed at November 5 to March 15, 1957, the school offers homemaking, textiles, and home furnishing courses for girls 16 and over, under Miss R. McKinnon at Beausejour Hospital.
Ellen Sylvia Arsenault daughter of Albert and Minerva Arsenault of Lac du Bonnet married Beverly Carl Seale of Vancouver at St Augustine s Church in Vancouver on Saturday July 21. Rev Father Seale officiated as the couple exchanged vows before a ceremony and reception at the Freemesian Club before departing for a Southern California honeymoon. The bride wore white silk organza with bouffant skirt and pearl coronet. maid of honor Eve Arsenault and bridesmaids Jessica Arsenault wore matching gowns. best man Joan Pan tora with ushers Ted Speers and Grant Gerrard. The couple plan to settle in Vancouver.
