Williams Bros. spread builds oil line in prairies
Work began last fall clearing the right of way and continued through winter with crews hauling pipe by train and unloading paint and protective dope along the route. In spring welders joined to double join the pipe for the full length as ditching machines began a six-foot trench. A traveling machine laid and wrapped the pipe while huge cats lifted sections into place. About 340 men are employed with a $60 000 weekly payroll, including 80 seasoned stateside workers and local recruits.
