Early sculptured buffalo on display at Saskatchewan Museum
A nine and a half inch carved white quartz buffalo, likely 10 000 years old, is shown at the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History. Found by farmer Mundie twelve years ago in the Saskatoon district, it is owned by the Saskatoon Archaeological Society and loaned to the museum. Dr Robert W Nero notes prehistoric origins, possibly religious symbolism, with the piece created by hammer stone via picking. Ernie Hedger and the society helped uncover its significance.
