Members of the Manitoba Teachers Society District Association No. 19 convened at Beausejour hall on Friday October 12 to discuss teacher recruitment public relations and ethics. Garnet Harland led talks on shortages permit systems and funding while J O Beckstead and J Chalaturnyk outlined local engagement and community relations. Officers for 1951 52 were elected with Chalaturnyk president Galan vice president Kozyra secretary Norquay nominating committee member Bahry public relations and an executive committee including Van Malsen Topoliniski Moroz.

Old fashioned and modern dancing entertained guests who gifted a Sunbeam Mix Master and a Game and Fish Association remembrance. Tea Realizes 73 A Tea Pantry Sale at Town Hall
Tea event at Beausejour Town Hall on Friday October 26 raised about 73 dollars for the hospital pantry. Flowers donated by Mayor Oscar Russell adorned the tables. Empress of Scotland to Sail Caribbean Cruises This Winter
The 26 300 ton Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Scotland will begin a 16 day February 1 Caribbean voyage from New York with further departures on February 20 and March 8. The ship pictured near the Statue of Liberty is slated for three sunlit winter cruises from New York to the Spanish Main. Prior to the cruise season she will carry an honored guest aboard.

Beausejour Pioneer William Laurie Dies at 62
William Laurie, Beausejour resident and longtime postmaster, died suddenly at Beausejour hospital on Saturday after a brief illness. Born in Winnipeg on April 18, 1885, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, rose to foreman, served as locomotive foreman, and became Beausejour postmaster in 1911. He is survived by his wife, two daughters Mrs. Clarence Bush and Mrs. Bremner Metzler, and brother Walter Laurie. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Beausejour Anglican church.

The September traffic report by the provincial safety division notes Greater Winnipeg accidents stayed below 1950 levels for the sixth month in a row with deaths steady at two and injuries down 44 percent to 69. Rural Manitoba saw deaths up 160 percent, injuries up 13 percent, and damages up 40 percent. Total province toll 15 killed and 212 injured, versus 7 killed and 253 injured last year.
