Manitoba to designate second trans provincial route

Manitoba will designate a second trans provincial highway on October 1, linking No 1 East and the Winnipeg Portage section to form No 4 highway from the Ontario border near West Hawk Lake to the Saskatchewan border west of Russell. The 351 mile No 4 will be longer than the 303 mile Trans-Canada, now renumbered as No 1 across the province, with discussions on a uniform Trans-Canada crest. The No 4 route includes 273 miles paved including a four lane Winnipeg to Lockport segment, 39 miles oil surfaced from Newdale to Strathclair and Foxwarren to Russell, and 38 miles gravel. The Shoal Lake to Foxwarren segment opened for full traffic.
