Laff it Off at Beausejour draws big crowd
A capacity audience enjoyed Laff It Off sponsored by the Canadian Legion in Beausejour led by Miss Van Nice. The show opened with Baby Contest winners and court members, including King Richard Schauffrott and Queen Shirley Ott, with prizes and songs followed by pioneer pageantry and national unity finale.

John McDonald to Play Hockey in California
John A. McDonald has accepted a contract to play hockey for the San Francisco Shamrocks for the 1949 50 season. His career spans Portage Flin Flon Edmonton and New York Rangers 1943 44. He also won Manitoba tennis doubles 1945 and Northeastern Manitoba Golf first flight. He is a pilot with Central Northern Airways and takes six months leave of absence without ending his company ties.

Cromwell Calf and Swine Club Visits Canada Packers
The Cromwell Calf and Swine club toured Canada Packers on Thursday October 13. Members traveled from Cromwell School in three cars led by J Mroz A Ottenbreit and W Mosquin. They viewed beef and pork cooling rooms learned pork and cattle grades and toured the stock yards before lunch and an evening showing Life With Father at the Lyric theatre.

A Riverside Chamber meeting on October 7 voted unanimously to incorporate Riverside as a village and begin proceedings. The school board ordered 18 street lights from Winnipeg Electric at 30 dollars per month.

Judgment Favors Demko Accident Claim At Manitoba Court
The Manitoba Court of Appeal ruled unanimously against John Sinnott for a hunting accident that blinded Lloyd Demko, 19, at Grubers Corners on October 25, 1947. Damages of 31,410 dollars were sought by William Demko. Sinnott argued mitigating circumstances. Chief Justice E. A. McPherson called the shooting gross carelessness.
