Normanby plans new Saugeen River bridge at Ayton site
Normanby Township council under Reeve Cecil Ellis and Road Superintendent Lorne Knoll awarded Bert Reeves of Mount Forest a $28000 tender to build a steel reinforced concrete bridge over the Saugeen River on Lot 19 Con 5/6 four miles south of Ayton. A separate $600 tender covers removal of the old bridge. The new two span structure 40/80 feet long and 24 feet wide will be higher and replaces a 1923 bridge. The old bridge failed after heavy rains, forcing the road closure. The item appeared in The Post Hanover Ont August 1 1957. The first kindergarten opened in Blankenburg in 1840.
